One of the mountains which Tbilisi lays on is named Taboris-Mta (თაბორის მთა). Long time ago, there was Daruijeli fortress. It protected the city from the south. The scripts of 10th century mention this fortress to be occupied by enemies, and it means that it was built even before. Within centuries, different armies forced this fortress, destroyed it during conquests and rebuilt after. By the end of 18th century, at the time of Agha-Mohammad-Khan’s invasion, the fortress was totally destroyed and never rebuilt again.

On 7th September 2012 the monastery was founded on Tabor mount. The project is not complete yet, but building of church is finished. There is a car way to the church, but going on foot is more spectacular.
There is a path leading to the church starting in the streets behind well known sulfur baths.
The road is not very simple!
Monks are living on the top of the mount near the church.
We found a lonely bell nearby,…
… fountain with drinking water…
…and a cross near the church.
That’s how the church looks outside.
It is very modest, but cosy inside.
We chose a car way to go back 🙂
The monastery is visible from different parts of the city. This is how it looks like from Narikala Fortress.
