Metekhi Church was built in 12th century on Metekhi rock mount that is located on territory of present Tbilisi.

The place of location is unbelievably beautiful – the rock mount goes deep into Mtkvari river. Strategical and geopolitical importance made it to be quite a dangerous region, so the church was destroyed several times during epochs of Persian and Mongolian empires.
The church was reconstructed several times. The last restoration was made in 16-17 centuries. Since that time it stays undamaged.
We were not allowed to take pictures inside, so let’s take a look around. There is a small park with with benches and bells nearby…

Next to the Church, there is Vakhtang Gorgasali’s monument. He was the king of Iberia and one of Georgian statehood founders.
