Day 12
This day we visited five more churches in Armenia. All of them located near Yerevan. Yes, you’re right, FIVE churches! There are lots of different churches in Armenia. It is hard to imagine how many churches we DID NOT visit 🙂
Garni Church was the first one. Part of the UNESCO World Heritage list, it is the first monumental building with numerous huge columns that I saw.
We will certainly write you detailed articles about each of these sights. This is just a short article about everything.
Gegard Monastery complex, the unique building located in Kotayk Province of Armenia. One more item of the UNESCO World Heritage. It is still a working monastery.
Saint Gayane Church (built in 630 A.D., also the part of UNESCO list)
Etchmiadzin Cathedral (built in 4th century A.D., listed among World Heritage Sites).
It was quite dark when we could reach the ruins of one of the most famous cathedrals of Armenia – Zvartnots Cathedral. In translation from ancient Armenian it means “celestial angels”.
We will certainly visit this place again and show it in a day light!
Day 12 was quite long. Tomorrow we are going for skiing!
